Branches 02:58
Branches sprung from roots surround it all Way down, way down From a man-made core The transient line retreats into the past Too long, too long Since we made our mark What you have shown me, I walked all over As my heart regresses your heart grows older And in quiet surrender you will take cover Yesterday is all the time you know So let go, go slow Us, in the moment, now What you have shown me, I walked all over As my heart regresses your heart grows older And in quiet surrender you will take cover...

On your side Shadows lie Dapple clouds Pass you by My kid believes inside every mountain There's a heart And inside the heart there's a friendship Waiting to start Let it last One day I Will also lie On my side Shallow-sigh But I believe I'll be like the mountain In your skies And you can come for comfort At my sides For all time My kid believes inside every mountain There's a heart And inside the heart there's a friendship Waiting to start Let it last

Blood Drawn 03:34
Let me show you my bruised arm The puncture marks shows where blood was drawn I watched the venous flow, controlled and warm And merge with heparin in new form I blood let in a millilitre show For a pint is more than I can give, I know Let the pressures dissipate to normal flow Let the humours find their balance, here they go So let it out again Let it out again Stop when I say when So let’s play with doses from the start Cos I need stronger anaesthesia An amnesiac that I should not recall Took the edges, but it did not take it all So let it out again Let it out again Stop when I say when

CTRL+Z 02:42
Always undo C T R L Z Too much thinking Protest, deflect, move on Disconnect the feeling Second guess the meaning Weight it down, shout it loud Fade it out, and turn it round Again When every word is written in invisible ink And every page whispers white noise You look for the spaces Where you can always hide it You write, undo, repeat And you ask yourself, for how long? Maybe we can disguise this just enough To make it seem like we know what we’re doing Disconnect the feeling Second guess the meaning Weight it down, shout it loud Fade it out, and turn it round Again Disconnect the feeling Second guess the meaning Weight it down, shout it loud Fade it out, and turn it round Again

Spaces 02:21
I played the chords Left spaces for you To tell me about it Did we find the right words? That didn't need to be heard Away from the sounds you sing Hold the note, I‘ll be there To hold you close, say I care I’ll be alright if you go So go, I know You laughed it off And swore once again You showed us a way through To come here to see To come here to believe In a way through the silence Hold the note, I‘ll be there To hold you close, say I care I’ll be alright if you go So go, I know

Morning brings a new arrival in To your house leave the door open In this being, believing you know that we all contain multitudes And you want it, but you can’t rely on us all to show gratitude Welcome them all Even a sorrowful crowd That sweeps through your house Clearing your thoughts aloud And those places you’re not sure you asked for are behind the door, sometimes You might have wanted it closed, but you know that you’d be here on different lines The dark thoughts, the shame Meet them at the door You’ll laugh and invite them gratefully in As a guide from beyond
7.
Follow the signs I’ll show you what this means Break down the lines Don’t tell me any more, please! But there is no obvious symbolism bearing down on me Joining the dots So you can tell me something else that I can’t see Focus your eyes So it could nearly be a nothing disguise A knowing deceit But there is no obvious symbolism bearing down on me Joining the dots So you can tell me something else that I can’t see Always resolve? Would you be leaving in an open ended scene? A thought that dissolves It could be just another line from A to B We’ll see...

Hidden Track 02:37
Just when you thought you had it all done You opened the door, but got turned around Once again The words and the space that you couldn’t ignore I know what we need, it’s less, no, it’s more? Think again But then put everything back again But is this a way to stay in control? You let it all out, but not past the door Tell me when And think it all over again Hidden in view Ask me again… So when is it done? Have you called it too soon? Ask me again… What if we tried to change up the tune? Think again And leave me to count up to ten Hidden in view Hidden from you Show me...
9.
You tell me, from the beginning Drop the middle, kill the ending Choose your own adventure, but don’t turn the page Hold your tongue, and keep your questions Repeat the words, just change inflection Keep it hid, play along, cos that’s the way This is only a test To follow, blinded and ageless You see the signs “Beware, church is in” Tell it all, but keep me guessing Misappropriate the lessons Still you say ‘it’s all good’ So I guess that’s OK? I could never think of you as someone that would hear All the words and not believe the meaning’s disappeared And I could never think of you as someone that would see Everything and not think that we should be going clear Could you ever think of me as someone to retreat? Dance around it, leave it there, clear out, undo belief When all is said and done, we’re just some bodies who can say Love will conquer all

Waves 02:12

about

'Waves' is the third full-length album by The Paperback Throne. ‘Inside Every Mountain There’s A Heart’ is the lead single, and in many ways is the heart of the album. A 1970’s Nilsson-influenced arrangement drives the song forward, held together by a dreamy lyric by friends Annie Brown and Ben Brown. The double-tracked vocals, multi-layered harmonies, soaring string synthesisers and a ‘Local Hero’ esque guitar solo meant this was always the first choice as the single. It is accompanied by a stunning video by Maree Hughes - youtu.be/eWZWDUiJ4p8. Waves is a collection of old and new Paperback Throne songs that are now fully realised, blending weight and ambience, loss and reflection, doubt and light, momentum and love. Happy listening...
